Transforming Lives in Puerto Plata

Community Outreach Advocates, a nonprofit organization, proudly spearheaded the Clean Water Initiative in the Puerto Plata region of the Dominican Republic. This project tackled the critical issue of limited access to clean water, transforming the lives of thousands by providing sustainable water solutions.

Faqs

The Process: Building a Foundation for Change.

We began by conducting on-the-ground surveys, collaborating with local leaders and health workers to identify the areas most affected by water contamination. Water quality tests revealed high levels of bacteria and pollutants in rivers and wells, causing frequent outbreaks of waterborne diseases, especially in rural communities.

We partnered with local organizations, including Agua Limpia Dominicana, and secured funding from international donors. This collaboration allowed us to access the expertise and resources needed to build sustainable water infrastructure.

Filtration Systems:

Installed gravity-fed filtration units in schools, health clinics, and public spaces. These systems removed 99.9% of bacteria, ensuring safe drinking water.

Well Drilling:

Drilled three deep wells equipped with solar-powered pumps in communities lacking reliable groundwater sources.

Rainwater Harvesting:

Constructed rainwater collection systems in remote areas to provide an alternative clean water source during the rainy season.

Our team held workshops to educate residents on water sanitation practices, system maintenance, and the long-term health benefits of clean water. Local leaders received training to oversee the maintenance and operation of the systems, ensuring sustainability.

Before the new well, we had to walk miles to collect water, and it was never safe to drink. Now, we have clean water right in our village. My children are healthier, and I have time to focus on my small business.
